Post Pandemic Scrum ~ How do we go back to the office?
It’s near the end of the summer here in The Netherlands and we are all tired of the lockdowns, restrictions, and safety measures put in place to keep us all safe. But, what we have to admit is that these measures really helped ‘flatten the curve’ and ultimately saved lives, and changed how we will work in the coming future.
But as a result, we as employees are now in a really weird “space” with our employers. We are in that awkward space where we are going to have to talk about going back to the office versus working from home. Now, of course, it is the elephant in the room, and as you can guess, everyone is treading carefully around it making sure no feelings are hurt, and no advice is given that might be contradicted later.
Now that we have identified the elephant, let us not ignore that over the past 18 months or so, the pandemic has taught us all a number of important things about ourselves and our roles in the businesses that we work in. As a result, we are now in the Facebook equivalent of “it’s complicated” with our jobs and the idea of going back to the office. We as employees have learned that commuting is hard and takes time, working from home is possible, and spending time with our loved ones is really great.
